Curating My Email

Beautiful Fresh Flowers Flora Shop Work Space BusinessLast week I wrote about how excited I was that I finally cleaned out my email. This week I wanted to share with you how I actually use my email inbox as a way to curate creative reading + inspiration for my work as well as my mind. I use my inbox as a tool to further my work, while simultaneously not allowing it to be a source of stress in my life. I’ve finally been awakened to the fact that I can choose for myself what gets emailed to me. All the stuff I don’t want is out. But what do I actually want??

May: A Month of Early Mornings

Early morningsWow, lots of M’s in that title! Not intended.

Last night on Facebook I made a pretty dramatic announcement. At least dramatic for me. You can read it here if you want. A monthly challenge, if you will. To help me conquer my sleep issues.

After a lot of thinking and fighting in my soul, as well as research, I’ve finally decided to commit to a month of 5am mornings. I have a lot of reasons for this personal growth challenge:

Wow, March + My 100 Day Project Announcement

IMG_7818So the month of March was a doozy. I don’t even really like that word but it’s the best one I can come up with. Not a bad month, just crazy.

We had a great trip down to Florida to see some of my family and some of my husband’s family.

March was the first month of using the Everydollar budgeting app by Dave Ramsey and actually sticking to a budget, even on a trip. Huge win for us! If you don’t already have a good system in place for creating monthly budgets and sticking to them, definitely try Everydollar. Continue reading “Wow, March + My 100 Day Project Announcement”

STUDIO Tour | March 2017

Studio Tour MainI think it’s about time I show you guys where I spend most of my time and make my art! It’s a humble space but it’s mine and it’s amazing.

The studio is really just the second bedroom of the place my husband and I are renting right now, off a busy street near a large university. Since we’re so close to a large school, we get to take advantage of this very affordable place as student housing. We also have a roommate that lives in the basement here and pays half of everything. It’s a great set-up and we’re so grateful to have it. Without such an inexpensive place to live, we wouldn’t have been able to afford me leaving my office job at the end of 2015 to pursue starting my own business. We love it here.  Continue reading “STUDIO Tour | March 2017”

24 Variations Project | February

IMG_7756February’s 24 Variation Project kind of happened randomly in the middle of the night. I was struggling to sleep and my tossing and turning was starting to bother my husband. So I decided to get up and paint.

Sometimes just doing something helps me stop obsessing over what I need to get done the next day. Which is usually why I’m struggling to sleep. Continue reading “24 Variations Project | February”

March Art Theme + Minimalism

march-themeI’m excited to announce my new theme for March! It’s called PHOTO to A B S T R A C T.

It’ll be a little different than what I’ve typically done. I’ve done a few abstracts in the past but have never felt very good about them. And whenever I see other artists making minimalist abstracts, I just die. I love them so much.

Why can’t I attempt to solve the mystery of abstract art?

February Art Theme | F L O R A L

Subscription ImagesMy February art theme #rla2017themes was florals. I struggled through this theme and was tempted to quit early because I did 100 days of florals last year.

But I think I came up with some fun flowers that I’m proud of. So that’s always a win.

This post will be mostly photos so enjoy the round up of my florals from February! If you want to see a little of what I did in January, you can visit my skies post.

March 2017 Goals

IMG_7683.JPG
My favorite page in my 2017 Floral Calendar.

Do y’all remember when I talked about goals in this blog post and I said my own New Year’s Resolution was to spend a little time each month making goals for only that month? Well it’s going pretty well. I’m 2 out of 3 months so far because I missed February haha. I use the excuse that I didn’t complete everything I wanted to in January so I just let those carry over to February. But I still should’ve taken ten minutes to evaluate what should’ve been carried over and what maybe could’ve been left behind.
